General Dentistry Denville
Comprehensive Oral Wellness Visit
We keep your teeth healthy, your gums strong, and your smile bright with routine checkups and cleanings.
Healthy smiles start with the basics.
Regular checkups and cleanings are the foundation of strong teeth,
healthy gums, and lasting confidence.
Why We No Longer Call It a “Cleaning”
Most people think of a dental “cleaning” as polishing teeth and scraping away plaque.
That’s old dentistry.
At our practice, we now offer a Comprehensive Oral Wellness Visit — because what we do goes far beyond cleaning. This visit looks at your mouth as an essential part of your overall health, not just your smile.
Here’s what’s included:
- Whole-Body Screening – We review your medical history, check your blood pressure, and identify oral signs linked to heart, brain, and overall health.
- Oral Cancer Screening – Early detection saves lives, and it starts here.
- Salivary Microbiome Testing with Bristle Health – A simple saliva test reveals which bacteria are helping or harming your oral and systemic wellness.
- Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) – The most advanced, comfortable way to remove disease-causing bacteria while protecting your enamel and gums.
- Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching – Because oral health starts with the habits that affect your whole body health.
The Difference
A traditional “cleaning” focuses on what’s on your teeth.
A Comprehensive Oral Wellness Visit focuses on what’s happening in your entire mouth — and how it affects your body.
This approach lets us detect problems early, tailor your care to your unique health situation, and keep your smile (and your health) thriving.
Systemic Health and Oral Health:
The Connection Between Oral Health and Overall Wellness
Your mouth is more than just the gateway to your smile—it’s a window into your overall health. Research continues to reveal strong connections between oral health and systemic conditions throughout your body.

Warning Signs Your Mouth May Be Telling You
Prevention through Partnership
Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is a key part of supporting both your dental health and overall wellness. Your daily brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings play a crucial role in preventing the bacterial buildup that can impact your systemic health. When you invest in your oral health, you’re taking an active role in your entire body’s well-being.
Our team is committed to working closely with your other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care that addresses the vital connection between your oral health and overall health. This collaborative approach ensures that you receive the best possible care, supporting you in your health journey.
Stages of Gum Disease due to Biofilm (Bacteria)
Gingivitis
Red, swollen, bleeding gums from poor cleaning. The biofilm irritates your gums but it’s reversible with proper care.
Periodontitis
If gingivitis gets worse, the biofilm spreads under your gums and releases toxins. This causes painful swelling, inflammation, and infection. It can start loosening teeth and damaging bone.
Advanced Periodontitis
Worsening symptoms like receding gums, very loose teeth, and continuous bone loss. Aggressive
Dental Implant Maintenance
Dental implant maintenance is essential to prevent peri-implant inflammation and bone loss, and Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) provides a minimally invasive, evidence-based protocol that preserves implant surfaces while eliminating pathogenic biofilm to ensure long-term implant success.
Why General Dentistry Matters
Your oral health is the foundation of your overall health. While brushing and flossing daily is essential, visiting your dentist and hygienist every six months helps:

Keep teeth looking bright by reducing stains
-
Maintain a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime
Dental Exams
During your exam, your dentist will:
-
Check teeth and gums for cavities, gum disease, or other concerns
-
Take digital X-rays if needed to spot issues beneath the surface
-
Review any changes in your health that may affect your smile
Professional Cleanings
Your hygienist will:
-
Examine your teeth and existing dental work
-
Perform a periodontal exam to check gum health
-
Remove tartar and plaque buildup
- Provide a blood pressure screening
-
Provide an oral cancer and airway screening
We use guided biolfilm therapy to make what used to be an uncomfortable experience feel like a spa treatment.
Ongoing Care & Recommendations
If we spot early signs of tooth decay or gum disease, we’ll work with you on simple changes — like adjusting your brushing routine. For advanced concerns, we may recommend targeted treatments to restore your oral health.
ORALID™ ORAL CANCER SCREENING
Our dental office is not only dedicated to your smile, we’re also dedicated to your overall wellness. We take a preventive-based approach to your dental care, which includes an oral cancer screening as a part of your regular exam. Like any kind of cancer, oral cancer can be life threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. You are the most important factor in the early diagnosis of oral cancer through routine screenings through our office.
ARE YOU AT RISK FOR ORAL CANCER?
The most common factors include:
- A previous history of oral cancer
- Over 40 years of age
- Any tobacco use, such as cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco
- Excessive or heavy drinking
However, 40 percent of oral cancers are found in patients who do not present with any of the traditional risk factors or any other significant lifestyle risks. This means that even if you don’t have any risk factors for oral cancer, you could still be at risk.
ADVANCED SCREENING WITH ORALID
OralID gives us a step ahead of cancer with proven, optically based fluorescence technology in a hand-held device. OralID’s fluorescence light source allows us to see any irregularities in your lips, mouth, tongue, and throat that may have been missed under normal incandescent light.
During your oral exam, we will use OralID to look for abnormal tissue. With OralID, we can identify and evaluate abnormalities in your mouth, such as suspicious oral lesions, precancerous cells, and cancer that may be difficult to see during a regular visual exam.
Remember, early detection of oral cancer can improve the chance of successful treatment. As us about OralID oral cancer screening at your next appointment!

– Averiel M.
At my recent dental hygiene appointment as I soon as I walked in the waiting room I was greeted by wonderful smiles by Cindy and Dennis asking me how I was doing and both made me feel very comfortable and at ease. Then to be greeted by my beautiful hygienist, Melissa, who was right on schedule. During the whole process of teeth cleaning, Melissa informed me of issues developing that can be prevented by following certain procedures. Melissa’s job was complete and thorough and I was then greeted by handsome/professional Dr. Orellana who gave me my oral exam and took his time explaining possible issues that I will encounter in the near future. Thank you Dr. O and your staff, as always, for your kindness and professional expertise.
– Cornelia D
“I've lived with tetracycline-stained teeth all my life. I grew up never smiling. Dr. Orellana changed all that. I can't begin to tell you what a pleasure it has been for me. Very reasonably priced and nearly pain free. I sound like an advertisement, but it is the absolute truth. True professionals, and that goes from the front desk to all the ancillary personnel. Thank you all!”
– Rick S.
